In the night from Sunday to Monday, a fire broke out around 2 a.m. in an apartment complex on Nelson Mandelastraat in Heerhugowaard. A lot of smoke was released, which was clearly visible from the outside.
The fire brigade used a platform to combat the fire from two sides and quickly had the situation under control. Residents of surrounding homes had to go outside temporarily and wait there.
How the fire started is not yet clear. No residents were found in the affected home. According to a spokesperson, the police started a forensic investigation.
On 23 May there was also a fire in the same apartment complex, which was then possible by a short circuit. The police could not confirm whether both fires are related to each other.
