A strong journey from Daniel Altmaier ends at the French Open in the round of 16. The German did not get a good day against the American Frances Frances Tiafoe and lost 6: 3, 6: 4 and 7: 6 despite a good third set.
He struggled, he fought and he lost to a very striking Frances Tiafoe. After two hours and eighteen minutes, the favorite took advantage of its first match ball, indicating that it was a mistake by German. With this, Altmaier surprisingly missed his first quarter -finals at a Grand Slam. Especially in the first two sentences, German number two could not build on the achievements of the previous games.
With around two hours and thirty minutes delay, Tiafoe and Altmaier ran on the Court Suzanne Lenglen. The American was obviously gone for the long time better than the German. Tiafoe took off the first serve game after just eight minutes. Three minutes later, “Big Foe” stretched the fist upwards – 3-0. The Kempener also acted too passively and fueled his opponent’s lightning start.
But number 16 in the world also made a number of mistakes and brought Altmaier back into the game. The 26-year-old shortened to 2: 4, but was increasingly struggling despite the success. The lightness of the last appearances was missing in the German game. After 34 minutes, the favorite uses its second set ball and concludes the first set by ASA.
Tiafoe surprises Altmaier in the first set
In the second set, the German number two began to improve a little and brought his serve through without any major problems. Up to 3: 3, both players could not achieve a break, but Tiafoe looked safer and always took a lot of time with their own serves. The frustration on the other side rose. Altmaier struggles and loses two sentences at a rapid pace
Important that the recently so strong Altmaier caught a good start to the third set. Not least to maintain the belief in a comeback.
