A strong journey from Daniel Altmaier ends at the French Open in the round of 16. The German did not get a good day against the American Frances Frances Tiafoe and lost 6: 3, 6: 4 and 7: 6 despite a good third set.

He struggled, he fought and he lost to a very striking Frances Tiafoe. After two hours and eighteen minutes, the favorite took advantage of its first match ball, indicating that it was a mistake by German. With this, Altmaier surprisingly missed his first quarter -finals at a Grand Slam. Especially in the first two sentences, German number two could not build on the achievements of the previous games.

With around two hours and thirty minutes delay, Tiafoe and Altmaier ran on the Court Suzanne Lenglen. The American was obviously gone for the long time better than the German. Tiafoe took off the first serve game after just eight minutes. Three minutes later, “Big Foe” stretched the fist upwards – 3-0. The Kempener also acted too passively and fueled his opponent’s lightning start.

But number 16 in the world also made a number of mistakes and brought Altmaier back into the game. The 26-year-old shortened to 2: 4, but was increasingly struggling despite the success. The lightness of the last appearances was missing in the German game. After 34 minutes, the favorite uses its second set ball and concludes the first set by ASA.

Tiafoe surprises Altmaier in the first set

In the second set, the German number two began to improve a little and brought his serve through without any major problems. Up to 3: 3, both players could not achieve a break, but Tiafoe looked safer and always took a lot of time with their own serves. The frustration on the other side rose. Despite the tight game, Altmaier smashed his racket on the ground after an hour of burning – a symbol for the appearance of German.

The right -hander then faced three break balls, of which Tiafoe was able to use the second – again by an error in Altmaier. After that, the second sentence also tipped towards the favorite. A strong serve brought the Kempener into trouble and sealed the 2-0 set after 75 minutes.

Altmaier struggles and loses two sentences at a rapid pace

Important that the recently so strong Altmaier caught a good start to the third set. Not least to maintain the belief in a comeback. This was achieved by the approximate 1-0 of the Kempener, who increasingly gained self -confidence, but could not turn off the slight errors. It literally went back and forth – Break Altmaier (3: 1). Re-Break Tiafoe (3: 2). Break Altmaier (4: 2).

On the part of the American, the slight mistakes were slowly increasing. At 3: 5 he was lucky on his side. After a good second Altmaier surcharge and the subsequent rally, a passing ball showered the power edge and gave Tiafoe the re-break-at the most unfortunate time from the German perspective. He continued to push and took the lead again 6: 5.

Tiafoe remains without loss of sets at French Open

Both players increased in the tiebreak and were rewarded with the audience with a standing ovation. Tiafoe, who had not yet given a sentence in the entire tunier, always remained a bit wicker in the decisive rallies than the German. In the end, a mistake by Daniel Altmaier decided the game and Frances Tiafoe was able to cheer about the first quarter -finals at the French Open. He will meet the winner of the game between Musetti and Rune on Tuesday in the quarter -finals.
