KO-phase should be changed
UEFA apparently is planning the next change in the Champions League

The UEFA only introduced comprehensive changes to the Champions League at the current season. Now she is already flirting with the next innovation.
The first season in the new Champions League format has not yet been fully completed, as it is already being discussed about readjustments. According to a report by the “Sport Bild”, a detail of the KO system should be revised: The best eight teams in the group phase could in future be awarded the home advantage in the second leg-no longer just in the round of 16, as is the case so far.
The proposal comes from the UEFA club competitions. The European Association’s executive committee still has to confirm it, which, according to the report, is considered a matter of form. Further changes – such as the introduction of a direct penalty shootout without prior extension – were therefore not decided.
Since the beginning of this season, the premier class has been playing according to a new format: Instead of eight preliminary round groups with four teams each, there is now an overall table with 36 clubs (before that it was only 32). Each club plays eight games against eight different opponents – four at home, four away. Before that, there were six games against three rivals.
The best eight teams qualify directly for the round of 16. The teams in the places nine to 24 determine the remaining round of 16 in an additional playoff round.
