Mercedes boss does not expect F1 races in Germany

Formula 1 thrives with a lot of excitement worldwide in the current season, also in Germany. But there is no race in this country. And it stays that way for the time being.
Formula 1 is booming worldwide – but Germany is left out with regard to home races. This is no coincidence for Mercedes Motor sports director Toto Wolff.
In conversation with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, the Austrian expressed doubts about an early return of the premier class on German soil. “The state of mind at Germany is apparently not enough for a Formula 1 race at the moment,” said Wolff.
According to the 53-year-old, no one in Germany apparently is currently trying to make a win with a race. “Maybe you are too arrested in the old structures,” said Wolff. The situation is different, for example, in the British Silverstone. There it shows that a Grand Prix can also be economically useful on a traditional route – at least for the business people. “In any case, the English do a business with it,” said Wolff.
While other countries show great interest in an issue, there are currently no concrete efforts in Germany to organize races again on the Hockenheimring or the Nürburgring. The reason for this is, among other things, the high input fee of around 35.5 million euros, which is difficult to refinance in this country.
“If you want to organize a Grand Prix, you either have the business in mind or want to achieve a global-looking image transfer,” Wolff continued. Everyone expects a return. If German organizers do not recognize economic benefits, Formula 1 has to accept this – and ask why it is.
So far, a total of 79 Formula 1 races have taken place in Germany. The last one was held at the Nürburgring in 2020-but only as a replacement date during Corona pandemic. In 2019, Mercedes was the title of the last regular race in Hockenheim.
