The first mega change of a star from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool is dry: Jeremie Frimpong joins the English champion. The Reds announced this on Friday.
The fact that Bayer Leverkusen will lose his superstar Florian Wirtz to FC Liverpool has been emerging for days, but it is already fixed that Jeremie Frimpong leaves the Werkelf towards LFC. According to Bayer, an exit clause made the transfer possible.
The clubs confirmed the deal on Friday. The 24-year-old signed a “long-term contract”, it is said. The “Daily Mail” writes about a contract for five years.
“It was very easy. Liverpool came and said they were interested, and for me it was of course a breeze,” said the Dutch international that it was not a difficult decision for him to join the club from the Angard Road.
And further: “Liverpool fans, I will give everything, my energy, my zeal for work, and hopefully we can win together, celebrate together and bring everything together.”
Bayer Leverkusen allegedly collects a rich transfer
Frimpong switched to Leverkusen from the Scottish top club FC Celtic in January 2021. In the Rhinelanders who won the double in 2024, he was one of the absolute top performers. And scored 23 goals in 133 Bundesliga games.
The departure hits Leverkusen hard. Before Frimpong, coach Xabi Alonso had switched to Real Madrid, captain Jonathan Tah had not extended his expiring contract and joined FC Bayern, superstar Florian Wirtz is also very hot at FC Liverpool.
After all, the coffers of the Bundesliga club fill up rapidly. According to the “Daily Mail”, Liverpool pays around 35 million euros for Frimpong. For Wirtz, 150 million euros are said to be due.
Bayer had probably put around eleven million euros on the table for Frimpong 2021.
