Tom Waes sparkled with absence when the judge spoke about his drunk ride and that causes irritation. Arrogant, they think. But, he says, “That is normal in Belgium.”
Tom Waes’ sorry tour led him to the studio of Eva Jinek yesterday. After a public warning by Angela de Jong – she called on Eva to interview him harder than her weak Flemish colleague – she put a nice fire on him. Eva, who was dressed in a kind of circus director-outfit, asked all the necessary questions.
Sad and arrogant
One of the pain points is that Tom stayed at home when the judge expressed his opinion about his life -threatening Dronkemans ride. “Ai Tien (!!!) times previously convicted and then not even at the statement. Then you have become an arrogant TV star though !!!! Sad action and what a divar behavior of that Tom Waes,” Tina Nijkamp, for example.
She refers to that Tom appears to have been convicted ten times before for traffic violations. “Where even for alcohol on the wheel even for alcohol. And that you are not with that statement … then I think: well, I think that is really very staring, as I call it.”
‘Is not so in Belgium’
Why was Tom not there? He explains to Eva: “That was on the advice of my lawyer. That is not common in Belgium. You come to the hearing, but you will not come to the pronunciation. That is not common. I thought it was strange. I asked it to five times, from:” Should I really not be there? ” He says, “No, you really don’t have to be there.”
Eva: “And now afterwards? (…) I mean more that you can also stand a kind of physical to take the punishment.”
Tom: “I had been sitting on the session, isn’t it? That is actually not so common in Belgium, but I thought I should be there. I sat there for an hour. (…) I did not put myself away, I sat down there.”
Alcohol problem
When asked by Eva if he has an alcohol problem, he says: “No, I have … and I think that’s a justified question … I have absolutely no problem with alcohol – I work 300 days a year, I have no time to drink – but it is: if you come out and the pressure of the boiler, then you have to keep control.”
Eva: “That of the pressure of the boiler, that will recognize many people. It is of course about the decision that you made afterwards. That you find a risk acceptable that you are killing yourself or someone else, whether you destroy your entire career or end up in a wheelchair. Then you can say:” Alcohol has control over me for things I don’t want. “
No drop
Tom emphasizes that he currently lives completely alcohol -free. “We are now six months later. I have not drunk a drop anymore. I don’t need it. I feel good about it, so it could well be that I will never drink again. But I will certainly never drink a drop if I still have to drive. Hundred percent certain.”
Tom himself says he doesn’t remember anything of the evening. “No, nothing more. I entered the restaurant and that is all I still know. I then woke up from a coma on Sunday afternoon or night. A day and a half afterwards. My girlfriend was standing next to me and I definitely didn’t know what had happened.”
Alcohol
Eva also asks why Tom asked to get an exemption for an alcohol lock in the car. Why? “Yes, I didn’t want that. Look, the lawyer also wanted acquittal because a procedural error had been made in my alcohol test. I said,” Let us not do that. ” The alcohol lock was about the fact: I work in a sector … “
“If you play in ‘Undercover’, you have to ride in a series with ten cars. Then you can’t put an alcohol lock in ten cars. The question was:” May it be in his private car, but we can make sure that … “But that was just a question. There is no alcohol lock and we will have to see how we dissolve that.”
