Humberto van Nunen, Head of Head of Roads and Traffic West Flanders:
“From ‘de Put’ to ‘De Trumpet’: it saves only a few letters, but it is still a world of difference in terms of safety and flow. With this large -scale project we have realized a crucial link in the mobility and liveability of this region. We want to thank all the Kortrijkzanen and in particular the Bissegemnaars will also be the binding of their patience.”
The connection used to consist of two intersections with traffic light control. The little readable interior, difficult weaving movement on the R8 and the inadequate capacity, especially during the morning and evening rush hour for traffic security and poor flow on the R8. This made it one of the most dangerous traffic points in the region, resulting in many accidents.
“With the opening of the entrances and exits of the trumpet connection, we are taking an important step towards a safer and more easily accessible Kortrijk. The renewed infrastructure will benefit both the residents and the companies from the region and remarkably reduce the traffic jam on the R8,” says Mayor of Kortrijk Ruth Vandenberghe.
