Recommendations of the Editorial team
The long-awaited “Harry Potter” series from HBO Original has found its leading actors. Dominic McLaughlin takes on the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton plays Hermine Granger, and Alastair Stout will be seen as Ron Weasley on the screen. Production has thus answered the most exciting question of the preparatory phase – whoever enters the footsteps of the legendary film rolls.
Intensive casting phase with thousands of applications
The selection of the three leading actors was the result of a casting search under the direction of the Casting Directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann. Tens of thousands of children had applied, which underlines the interest and cultural importance of the project, it is said.
An adaptation of the book series
The new series sees itself as a faithful adaptation of the “Harry Potter” series by JK Rowling, which is also involved as an executive producer.
Global publication via HBO Max planned
HBO Max will stream the series there worldwide where the service is available – including German -speaking countries, Great Britain, Italy and Turkey. An appointment is still pending – the shooting has not yet started.
Harry Potter: Representation of the Severus Snape ensures wild debates
Oh eight films, the mega-successful cinema “franchise” (as it is called today) “Harry Potter” ended with “sanctuaries of death”. Central sorcerer’s apprentice actors such as Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson grew up. The format continued to live in numerous spin offs atmospherically: games, Lego kits or in the cinema fabric “fantastic animal worlds”.
Now the US broadcaster HBO has been working on implementing JK Rowling’s novel for a TV series for some time. And after the first re -occupations of the iconic roles have become known, there was promptly bright excitement in the global fan camp.
John Lithgow (known from “The Crown and the Criminal Code” Dexter “) as a new Prof. Albus Dumbledore or Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall was noticed in the Potter community without special emotions.
However, the Severus Snape personnel ensures strange cultural fights. In the films, the UK actor Alan Rickman, who died in 2016, embodied the shady Hogwarth brewer.
“There is nothing about him that suits Snape”
Now this role falls on Paapa Essiedu according to the US specialist magazine Deadline. The 34-year-old played in “Gangs of London” or “The Outrun” and is considered an emerging actor.
However, as a black man, the Brit does not seem to correspond to the descriptions as Rowling’s novels. The comments on the official “X” account “Harry Potter Universe” show a deep look.
“Paapa Essiedu may be a good actor. I like him,” writes someone “yes … what the hell is supposed to be? There is nothing about him that fits Snape.”
In the original book, Snape is an elongated, thin man with pale skin, a hook nose and yellow, crooked teeth. In the desired concert of the commentary, Adam Driver (rumored) is repeatedly challenged. However, this has different plans than playing in a TV fold-up of a (possibly)-counted fabric.
Racist component that never existed in the starting material
A few months ago, a Potter head on the Potter Head of Conspiracy Course was cushioned: “I expect a fully diversified occupation in which every ethnicity and sexual orientation is represented, with the exception of a heterosexual white man. Books stand and which will completely destroy the magic of the film. “
Potter connoisseurs also indicate content cliffs. Rowling’s books have a look back at Snape’s childhood. Here the figure is harassed by Harry Potter’s father. The novel history thus results in a racist component for the roles that never existed in the starting material. “When will this Woke madness be stopped?” Writes an X-user. “Even if Essiedu is a great actor – dear series makers, please read the whole story and think about possible problems.”
Already with the casting advertisement by HBO and Warner Bros in relation to an “inclusive and various occupation”, it had criticism on social networks.
