Richard Ashcroft spoke in an interview about his special connection to Oasis and why he himself is very convinced that he is the only suitable support act for its big reunion tour 2025.
Ashcroft: “I am the only one who can take over this slot”
In October last year it was announced that the former front man of The Vera will accompany all 17 appointments of the Oasis Reunion in Great Britain and Ireland. In addition to Ashcroft, the Liverpool Britpop band Cast is also on the preliminary program. Ashcroft will appear at five shows in the Wembley Stadium, five concerts in Heaton Park Manchester, as well as in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin. He sees this a certain logic.
In a new interview with “The Chris Moyles Show” on Radio X, Ashcroft spoke that he would understand the importance of his support variety exactly-and that he would take it as a matter of course. “I see it in such a way that I play a very important role in it,” he explained via “NME”. His logic: “Back then Oasis The Verve supported, then we supported her in the Earls Court Arena, and later I played with you as a solo artist.”
In a conversation with Noel Gallagher, Ashcroft is said to have expressed his point of view directly according to “NME”: “I said to Noel: ‘You know, I think I am the only one who can take over this slot. Especially with a huge open-air show-everyone wants to see you. And if you don’t come with something of your own, if you have nothing to offer, I don’t know what happens.'”
This is the Connection
The connection between Ashcroft and Oasis goes far back. As early as 1993-one year before the release of her debut album Definitely Maybe-Liam and Noel Gallagher The Verve accompanied the support act. Conversely, The Vereve performed as an opening act at Oasis concerts in Paris and at Irvine Beach in Scotland in 1995. Ashcroft was also the inspiration for the Oasis song “Cast No Shadow” and later sang the background vocals for “All Around the World”, which can be found on the 1997 album be here. In the past, Noel Gallagher had expressed that he could even imagine taking an album with Ashcroft.
Ashcroft about the career push: “It really happened”
“I think it’s great that we are still there,” said Ashcroft via “NME”. “I was there right from the start. I saw how they were famous before I was. They were at Top of the Pops, they sold millions of records. But the crazy thing is: two bands, both in Transit vans, both play in front of 300 people, both believe, they do it-and then it really happens.”
The friendship between Ashcroft and the Gallagher brothers has stayed over the years. In 2021, together with Liam Gallagher, he recorded an acoustic version of his song “C’Mon People (We’re Making It Now)”, which on the album Acoustic Hymns Vol. 1 appeared. In 2018, Richard Ashcroft also surprised the audience in Finsbury Park when he performed as a support at a concert by Liam Gallagher.
Richard Ashcroft recently published the single “Lover”. A new solo album is also in preparation.
The Oasis tour has so far surrounded a total of 41 concerts and is once moving across the globe. However, Germany appointments are not included.
