Leader of the table for the time being
FC St. Pauli has managed to return to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the home game against 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday evening, Hamburg celebrated a somewhat fortunate 1-0 (0-0) win and are now ahead of pursuers Darmstadt 98 and Werder Bremen (48 each) with 51 points to play against each other. In front of 22,433 spectators in the Millerntor Stadium, which was not completely sold out, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (67th) made the Kiezkicker’s tenth home win of the season perfect.
With his three-man defense and a wide midfield, the well-organized sixth-placed St. Pauli caused problems in the offensive. The guests initially even had the better chances. Stefan Schimmer (22nd) and Christian Kühlwetter (30th) failed because of the attentive keeper Nikola Vasilj. Guido Burgstaller (37′) had the only chance worth mentioning for the Kiezklub, but it went unused.
After the change, the home side took control again. Simon Makienok (49′) failed at goalkeeper Kevin Müller’s foot, Burgstaller didn’t hit the ball properly in a promising position (53′). After Leart Paqarada’s tailored cross, Kyereh did better as he scored his tenth goal of the season from a free stand. FCH went full offensive in the final phase and were unlucky that Tim Kleindienst (83rd) only hit the crossbar with his head.
With Hofmann and Kyereh: Best scorers in the 2nd Bundesliga 2021/22
Erzgebirge Aue conceded clear home defeat against Karlsruher SC
FC Erzgebirge Aue will probably have to check off the company to stay in the class. The table penultimate lost against Karlsruher SC 0:3 (0:0). 6,619 spectators saw an extremely ripped off guest team, which pulled the tooth out of Auern, who had been superior for a long time, with their only clear chances through Philipp Hofmann (54th), Marvin Wanitzek (67th) and Marc Lorenz (85th). With the success, Karlsruhe should definitely have stayed in the class.
The hosts, where captain and goalkeeper Martin Männel returned to the squad after surviving the corona infection, but only sat on the bench, had a very strong first half. Except for the starting minutes, there was nothing to see from KSC, as Auer defended very passionately, pressed high and tried again and again to make the game fast and dangerous with passes in depth. The biggest shortcoming was once again the exploitation of chances.
Prince Osei Owusu in particular was always wanted, but neither the striker nor Nicolas Kühn or Dimitrij Nazarov scored. After the KSC had no chance in the first section, he scored with the first opportunity. Hofmann skilfully converted a cross from Lorenz to take the lead. After that, the guests had exactly the game in front of them that they wanted: Aue had to invest even more offensively and became more open to counterattacks because the security of their own actions also disappeared with the deficit. Karlsruhe used this for the decision.
