IIHF Chairman Luc tardif reported this on Sunday at the World Cup press conference.
Tardif emphasized that the International Olympic Committee is the organizer of the Games and IIHF is only responsible for the hockey tournament.
“We have put pressure on the Organizer Committee to make the decision, no matter what decision,” Tardif said.
– The organizers need to know exactly who is playing. Other participants also need to know the match program.
According to Tardif, IIHF has made a match program with the scenario that Russia is playing, but also by the fact that Russia is out.
– They recently asked us to send them a match program without Russia. The notification should still be officially coming. The International Olympic Committee told us that they informed the Russian Olympic Committee that Russia would not participate in the Olympics.
The Milan and Cortina Olympics will be held in February 2026.
Russia and Belarus are also out of the 2026 World Cup. The 2027 World Cup will be decided in February.
