Next success for the women of FC Bayern: At the short game format “World Sevens Football” (W7F) in Portugal, the German champion won the title – and secured a full prize money in the millions.
In the final, the team won 2-1 against Manchester United on Friday evening. Momoko Tanikawa and Sarah Zadrazil turned the game after Simi Awujo initially put the English in the lead. Tanikawa was named the best player of the tournament, ENA Mahmutovic was the best goalkeeper.
The Munich women had previously played confidently through the group phase and beaten 5-0 in the semi-finals Paris Saint-Germain. The venue was the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota in the Portuguese Estoril-just a few kilometers away from the men’s Champions League final on Saturday in Lisbon.
The W7F format brings new dynamics into play: eight European top clubs competed in mode 7-to-7, a total of $ five million prize money was released.
