With a joint approach, the government wants to contribute to more well -being of people with confused behavior and their environment. Attention is also paid to livelihood. The approach must also lead to less pressure for, for example, healthcare professionals and police. Minister Judith Uitermark of the Interior and Kingdom Relations coordinates the approach.
The number of reports of nuisance caused by people with confused or misunderstood behavior has increased in recent years. Not only with the police, but also with, for example, housing corporations and within healthcare. Many parties are concerned with the problems, but often within their own domain and independently of each other. That is why an interdepartmental approach was started, under the direction of BZK, together with the Ministries of Justice and Security, Public Health, Welfare and Sport, Housing, Spatial Planning and Social Affairs and Employment. The central government works together with municipalities, care and safety partners, social organizations and companies.
Within the approach, existing initiatives of these parties are further developed in conjunction. The approach is also widened with attention to livelihood, since this is often an important factor in finding a solution for people with confused behavior. This concerns income, housing, debt problems and work. Part of the approach is a better connection with forensic and regular care. The House of Representatives will be informed annually about the progress of the approach. On Wednesday 28 May, the relevant ministers will debate with the House of Representatives about the approach.
