Three years after the violent murder of poultry farmer Jan van Mullekom (47) from Helenaveen, the police are still looking for answers. The murder of Van Mullekom, committed in July 2022, has been exceptionally violent according to the criminal investigation. The trace image suggests that several perpetrators were involved in the brutal attack. The perpetrators may have more similar murders on their conscience.
Van Mullekom was found out of consciousness in the morning of July 11, 2022 at the back door of his house. He turned out to have been tortured and died later in the hospital. The police suspect that the perpetrators were looking for something in his home, which is still virtually untouched three years later. Everywhere the blood sweeping can still be seen, broken walls, skirting boards have been pulled away and holes have been drilled. The poultry farmer was killed by a lot of violence. The police think he might have to give something, but do not yet know if something has been taken by the perpetrator (s).
“The investigation can be said that even experienced detectives have rarely seen a crime scene in which traces of violence are so visible,” the police and the OM write after asking from De Telegraaf. More than a hundred spicolons have now been investigated, a number that is ‘exceptionally’. The forensic investigation has yielded a DNA profile, but the police do not want to share anything about that.
There is hope that there are more traces that can lead to a breakthrough. “Given the many traces found and the continuous technical developments, there is the hope that more traces will result in results that may be important for the research in the future.”
Mistake
Scenarios as a robbery that got out of hand, business, relational or criminal reasons are still being investigated. Although Van Mullekom did not have a criminal past, the research team keeps that option open. A possible mistake is also taken into account. This is more common in the criminal circuit.
“It is still completely unclear why he had to die,” says his girlfriend, who wants to stay anonymous because the perpetrators are not yet caught, in conversation with De Telegraaf. “And that is a frightening fact. We hope through maximum attention on the golden tip.” In an attempt to collect more information and the golden tip, she is the one website started.
The criminal investigation also investigates similar crimes elsewhere in the country and in the border regions, but no link has yet been found. For the tip that leads to the solution of the murder case, a reward of 15,000 euros has been made available. People with information are requested to report to the police.
