Provincial States want a test with nocturnal public transport. A proposal from D66 was hired on Friday. Among young people there is a great need for night buses in student cities and entertainment areas, according to that party.

The college must now talk to carriers and municipalities to see where an experiment with night buses is feasible and desirable.

Convince
The submitter Floris Strak (D66) had to make some effort to convince other parties. For example, the VVD and 50PLUS wondered whether young people are really waiting for nocturnal public transport. “They share an Uber, take a taxi or appoint someone like Bob,” said Petra Lepolder of the VVD.

“If you ask young people at a high school what they want, what does D66 think then the answer,” asked Jan-Frans Brouwers on behalf of 50Plus. “The answer is not ‘a night bus’, but McDonalds.”

Drivers
The SP was also critical of the proposal. “We are still busy fully occupying lines,” said Oscar van Raak. “Does D66 now want us to use scarce bus drivers at night?” The parties ultimately voted for the proposal, because it is part of the investigation that the timetable during the day should not suffer.

According to D66, there are signs that the number of bus drivers is increasing, so there is now room for the research. For the party it would be an ideal commitment to students who were trained as a bus driver. It is the wish of the States that the experiment will be set up in the summer, when the new period for public transport in West Brabant starts. At the end of this year, the college must report on the results.
