Fresh 38 years old, the Serbian takes revenge against Matteo, who had defeated him in Madrid a few weeks ago. Now it awaits one between Popyrin and Norrie
Nervous yes, but still effective. In Geneva Novak Djokovic takes his revenge against Matteo Arnaldi. After the defeat suffered at the debut of the Masters 1000 in Madrid, a few weeks after the last direct clash, the former number one beats the blue tennis player in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Swiss red earth. A double 6-4 that arrives in a special day, that of his birthday, which Matteo tried to ruin in the second set, when he had torn the service to his opponent. Nole, however, at the age of 38 has no intention of stopping: come back and goes to the semifinal, where he will face one between Popyrin and Norrie, and the hunt for his number 100 continues.
The match
–
The first partial is summarized in the third game. Arnaldi grants something, Djokovic, who compared to Madrid is more concentrated and less phalloid, takes advantage of it: on the third useful opportunity he conquers the break and carries out. The Serbian is not very wrong on his jokes, except when he goes to serve. Arnaldi, however, in the crucial game of these quarters of the final, scored his ninth unreserved error of the partial and so he closes on 6-4. The inertia of the second, however, changes several times. The first turning point arrives on 2-1: Nole offers the first two break balls in Arnaldi, misses, loses the service and, to close in beauty, breaks the racket for frustration. In a partial in which the error is the main reading key offered, here is the double foul that condemns the Sanremo tennis player: so Matteo loses the joke for the second time in the match. The five consecutive games signed by the Belgrade player are a sentence for Matteo: it is the former number one who conquered the semifinal. In short, a good birthday in full Nole style.
