“I needed some time to recover.” Kimi Antonelli does not hide, still marked by the difficult weekend of Imola where “everything was more difficult than expected”. The Bolognese kept us to do well in his first home GP, yet things did not go as hoped, with his Mercedes stopped by a technical problem. But now it’s time to look forward, and this weekend the 18 -year -old from Mercedes will have the opportunity to redeem himself on the streets of the Principality of Monaco: “A unique weekend, every time you are looking for the limit, the walls are getting closer”.

Monk in trust

“It will be important to take a good rhythm right away – explains the star’s pilot – we know how complicated it is to overtake here for which the qualification is fundamental. The new rules force us to make two stops, and it is legitimate to expect some surprises, but the Saturday remains fundamental. Obviously it will be important not to make mistakes and prepare well for the single lap in all free test sessions”. The good skills in the qualification of the W16 bode well in this sense, as confirmed by Antonelli: “Our single -seater so far has always been fast on Saturday and here is all about traction”. But woe to forget the pilot: “Ours is a fundamental role – confirms Kimi – probably more than any other track. If the car will be as I expect, it will be a good weekend, I trust”.

Imola? I was wrong

And when the mind returns to Imola, Antonelli shows great maturity reaffirming his mistakes. “It was my first home race – she tells a little bit Kimi – a really intense and demanding weekend for me. Mentally I did not feel concentrated as usual. I don’t want to say that you were thinking about anything else, but when you are tired it is complicated it is complicated to manage the concentration and I was unable to have the performance I wanted on the track”. To influence Antonelli’s Italian weekend “external aspects, which I have not been able to manage well”. “When you get in the car and you are not ready as usual you immediately realize it. But this does not mean that I will change the approach of all time, from now on I will always climb 100%by car. And again:“ I certainly don’t want to say that it was a team problem. I spent several time with friends and guests and in general the situation was not managed in the best way. I spent too many energy before starting to drive and when it was to take to the track. I wanted to share the experience of my first home race with people close to me but now I can say that I was wrong. “
