TEMU supports action against forgery of the product and joins the International Antocounterfeiting Coalition (Eng.: International Coalition against Fack of Product, IACC).
The Chinese online trading platform has signed a declaration of intent with the IACC, Temu announced on Thursday. This is intended to deepen the cooperation on the protection of intellectual property and strengthen the efforts to combat online counterfeits.
As a founding member, Temu is now part of the Marketplace Advisory Council (Mac) of the IACC, which also includes “leading online marketplaces, payment providers and global brands”. The e-commerce platforms Amazon and Ebay as well as the brands Chanel and Nike are also part of the Mac.
“This declaration of intent is a significant step forward in our collaboration, which is based on transparency, responsibility and a common commitment to consumer protection,” said Iacc President Bob Barchiesi. “The IACC has launched the Mac to bring actors together in a way that has a real, sustainable effect – and the participation of Temu contributes to strengthening this vision.”
Structure to the “Trusted online marketplace”
Temus accession is intended to underline the commitment of the platform “for the establishment of a trustworthy online marketplace”. “We look forward to working with other industry leaders: to work together more powerfully against the sale of illegal goods on the Internet,” said a Temu spokesman.
According to his own statements, Temu has invested considerably in the protection of intellectual property since the start in 2022. This includes sellers: Interior review and training on compliance, algorithmic surveillance and manual review, an IP protection portal and a brand register to simplify applications for blocking illegal offers, as well as an internal enforcement team.
Despite these measures, companies repeatedly complain that the products on the platform look deceptively similar to those from their own range, as dpa reported in December.
