An Olympic champion is preparing for his last winter as an active professional. Manuel Fettner has announced that he ended his career.
Ski jumper Manuel Fettner stands as a ski jumper before his last winter. The Tyrolean has announced that he ends his career, so it looks at the upcoming winter with a special feeling. In a message from the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) it was said on Wednesday that the anticipation for the season was “almost bigger” by deciding on the end of the career.
The Olympic second of 2022 in singles and gold medalists in Beijing’s team competition has so far not won a World Cup individual victory. Nevertheless, he can look back on an impressive career, which began with a debut on January 4, 2001 in Innsbruck. At that time he took part in the four-hill tour as a 15-year-old and initially took 44th place. Just two days later, he surprised with a fifth place at the tour final in Bischofshofen.
At the end of the 2025/26 season, Fettner will be able to look back in the World Cup over a quarter of a century. The 39-year-old said about the challenges of recent years: “It will not necessarily be easier every year to keep up with the boys.”
With a view to the coming winter, Fettner spoke of a possible climax of his career: “With the Ski flight World Cup and the Olympic Games, it could be the perfect career end.”
In addition to the Olympic Dedals, the veteran of the veteran also includes the world championship title in team jumping at the Nordic Ski World Championship 2013 in Val di Fiemme (Italy) and team bronze at two further World Championships. In 2017, he reached his best placement in the overall World Cup with tenth. He was on the podium several times in the World Cup.
