The winners of the Champions League can be honored with a trophy on Saturday. As the police said, the trophy had hooded.
The women’s Champions League Cup has reappeared. Four days after theft, the Portuguese police returned the trophy to the European Football Association UEFA – the incident had not been made public until then.
As the police said, hooded perpetrators had stolen the 60 centimeter high and ten kilogram trophy from sterling silver from an underground car park of the José-Alvalade stadium in Lisbon on Saturday. At that time there was a game between Sporting Lisbon and Vitória Guimarães.
On the X platform, the police said that the trophy, which next Saturday defending champion FC Barcelona and FC Arsenal, had reappeared. The authorities determined and currently have 13 suspects in their sights. In addition to the trophy, other UEFA objects are said to have been stolen. Further parties are not excluded. The investigation continues.
UEFA has not yet publicly commented on the incident. According to the Portuguese newspaper “Record”, the perpetrators came to the trophy by cutting a fence and stole it from a van.
The daily newspaper “Correio da Manhã” reported that recordings of security cameras had contributed significantly to the quick information.
