England presents the first gonorrhea vaccine. In 2020, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there were an estimated 82.4 million new infections among adults worldwide. With the vaccine program that starts on 1 August, the United Kingdom hopes to stop the spread of the Neisseria Gonorrhoeae bacteria, especially now that antibiotic resistance is a growing problem. Data from Sensoa show that the number of gonorrhea diagnoses between 2021 and 2023 increased by no less than 74 percent in Flanders.
