After the last matchday, Bundesliga relegated VfL Bochum had already adopted ten players who will no longer be part of the squad in the coming second division season. On Tuesday, another name was added to the list in which the club still had hope for a whereabouts: Gerrit Holtmann also decided to say goodbye and will not extend his expiring contract. “We would have liked to continue with Gerrit,” said Managing Director Dirk Dufner.

Holtmann came to VfL in 2020. His five Bochum years were interrupted by two half -year loans to Antalyaspor and Darmstadt 98. In the rest of the time, the Bremerhaven native came to 115 games for the district club; 75 of them in the Bundesliga, 30 in the 2nd league. “Everyone has seen the VfL family presented themselves in the last weeks after the bitter descent-this is anything but a matter of course. Nevertheless, I decided that I would like to accept a new challenge again, wish the VfL and all supporters and only keep their fingers crossed that the club will play again where it belongs: in League 1! He didn’t reveal what his new challenge is.

At the 2-0 away win at FC St. Pauli, ten players were adopted at the VfL, including the loan players Myron Boadu (As Monaco), Tom Krauss (Mainz 05), Georgios Masouras (Olympiakos Piraeus) and Jakov Medic (Ajax Amsterdam). Paul Grave and Mohammed Tolba also leave the club, as well as Ivan Ordets and Bernardo. The VfL icon Anthony Losilla and Cristian Gamboa decided to end at the end of the career after eleven or six years in Bochum. In the Hamburg Millerntor Stadium, the duo was duly celebrated again after the success of the last Bundesliga game of the club and was also adopted by the home audience of FC St. Pauli with great applause (all VfL transfers in the overview).
