Speer thrower Julian Weber did it and broke the 90-meter brand for the first time. According to the athlete, it should not be expected that throws in the top segment are now followed in rows.

Julian Weber is finally part of the 90s club. “I waited for so long for this moment,” the javelin thrower confessed in an interview with “akhnchletik.de”. Last Friday, the European champion from 2022 had thrown his spear at 91.06 meters at the meeting in Doha – with which he not only secured personal best, but also the victory.

For Weber, a great load also fell away, and for years he chased his big goal. “It was a very emotional moment! And just a great feeling,” said the 30-year-old about his special throw. “I don’t want to be too theatrical now, but after so many years, after so many pain you went through, it was already something very special.”

In a high -class competition, the Mainz had a tight duel with the Indian Neraj Chopra, which also cracked the 90 meter (90.23 m). “I had already put a blatant series. Of course I knew that even more was going on when I meet the spear a little better,” Weber reviewed the evening: “In the last attempt to implement it as I imagined, it was perfect. Neraj Chopra and I know each other for so long, we understand each other really well and treat ourselves to each other.”

Weber does not expect 90-meter throws “like on the assembly line”

For Julian Weber, the new personal best means that it will be more of the favorite group in the future. Although he actually “now a house brand” in the statistics: “But I don’t hope that each of me is now expecting 90-meter throws on the assembly line. I hope that people can classify and relativize this.”

The successful 90-meter threshold first feels “like a liberation and a relief”.

As a result, he can now concentrate in the best possible way to prepare for the World Cup in Japan. It will take place in Tokyo from September 13th.
