Wilco are among the most impressive live bands in recent rock history. If you could not or did not want to convince yourself of this in front of the stage, you heard it on the live album “Kicking Television”. That has been on the hump for two decades now. Perhaps that is why the band around singer Jeff Tweedy decided to add.

For a few days now there have been “Wilco Live (Orange)” for a few days. The playlist contains a total of 24 songs from appearances from the past eight years. The latest recordings come from 2024, which is why, among other things, “cousin” and “Meant to be” from the current record “Cousin” can be heard.

Also included are band classics (“Impossible Germany”, here at a completely different pace at Nels Clines Guitar solo) and highlights from the younger catalog (especially the bewitchingly beautiful “Bird Without a Tail / Base of My Skull” from “Cruel Country”, which is now actually part of every Wilco setist).

First live collection since “Kicking Television”

“Kicking Television” depicted in 2005, as the Chicagoer sounded in a new line-up after the numerous departures and the two album championships “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” and “A Ghost is Born”. Some time has passed since then, but the line up has remained constant.

Of course, the ravages of time did not pass the Wilco members either. Guitarist Nels CLINE will be 70 again next year. Jeff Tweedy has developed again as a songwriter/producer/author. After a few plates that could no longer keep the very high level of earlier days, the musicians were recently confident and open to new influences.

On the stage, however, Wilco has always been a power and inspired the idea of lifting your own songs to a new level.

This can also be heard in this live compilation. Even the straight rocker of past days (“Casino Queen”) sound like new. The end can then once again deliver “Spiders (Kidsmoke)”, which is now played again in all his Krautrock splendor.
