Brussels (dpa-AfX)-negotiators of the European Parliament and the EU countries have cleared the way for billions in Egypt. As the parliament and the EU countries announced, four billion euros in Egypt should help, among other things, to manage economic problems. The money is to be paid in several tranches, the approval is linked to editions.
According to the EU Parliament, Cairo has 35 years to repay the money. The agreement must still be formally confirmed by the European Parliament and the EU countries.
The loans are part of a strategic partnership that the EU had closed with Egypt in March 2024. In view of the then increasing number of refugees, the cooperation with the North African country wanted to expand considerably.
