The 44-year-old Smit was an assistant coach and the 39-year-old ax for three years for six years. “They have taken great steps in their personal development and now a new challenge has come their way. We wish them the best in their further careers as a coach and as both have indicated, we will go together for a successful EC in Switzerland this summer,” said Nigel de Jong, Top football director of the KNVB.
As a football player, Smit played for Telstar and PSV, among others. In 2007 he stopped with professional football. Then he was a trainer at a number of amateur clubs and was an assistant trainer at Telstar.
