In order to realize the promotion space, Paderborn would have needed shooting aid in the 2nd Bundesliga. When it failed to do so, the SCP even went down at Karlsruher SC and lost 0: 3 (0-0) on Sunday.

The quick decision in the second round provided KSC left wing Lilian Egloff with a double pack within four minutes (50th minute/54.). Marcel Franke scored the third goal in the 72nd minute.

Good start of the Paderborn, but hardly any danger

The Paderborners had actually noticed from the start that they wanted to fight for their theoretical chance. The guests checked the midfield, let the ball run confidently, but also had a good eye on counter protection at any time. After 25 minutes, the SCP in Karlsruhe was 5: 1 goal shots, the last consequence and the last accuracy were missing in order to be really dangerous.

Paderborn’s Scheller does not hit the ball properly

Exemplary was the chance of Tjark Scheller in the 22nd minute. Raphael Obermair had prevailed over the right side, his cross ended with Ilyas. The KSC clarified its header inadequately in the middle, but Scheller did not hit the ball properly despite the free shot, so that only a goblet ball came out.

Karlsruhe did not appear aggressively for a long time, only after a good half an hour did an exclamation sign managed: Marcel Franke headed a corner ball sharply on goal, but Manuel Riemann parried brilliantly.

Obermair shoots penalty

At the latest in the 37th minute, Paderbrn should have been in front. The very busy view had brought out a penalty against Christoph Kobald, which was too impressive, but Obermair missed miserably: Max Weiß could even hold his half -high shot, but clapped – but Marvin Mehlem’s margin was too weak and flew over the goal.

At the latest in the half -time break, the Paderborn players should have obtained information about the intermediate stands from the other stadiums – and that was certainly not the best motivation for their own game.

Fast decision for KSC by Egloff’s double pack

Just through the clear leadership of SV Elversberg at FC Schalke 04 the hopes sank towards zero, and somehow the Paderborners did not get this from their heads or out of their legs after the change.

Five minutes after the restart, Paderborn defender Felix Götze only half-heartedly clarified with his head, Egloff thankfully accepted the invitation and took the lead. After that, any resistance to the guests explained. Four minutes after the tour, Egloff was allowed to dribble through the midfield, let three SCP players get out and enforced 25 meters – Riemann did not look exactly brilliant against the low shot.

Class lesponer by Karlsruhes Franke

The experienced goalkeeper had no chance in the third goal: After a free kick flank on the second post Franke, Franke lifted the ball into the far corner with a lot of feeling over the goalkeeper.

Ultimately, after a strong season, Paderborn lacks three points on the relegation place. They also lose their trainer Łukasz Kwasniok, who has announced his farewell.
