If he stays, does he change or does he even take a break from Formula 1? There have been many rumors around Max Verstappen in the past few weeks and months. Now the red bull racing pilot has made hints about its future decision and clearly excluded an option.
The frame data is clear: Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing actually has a contract until the end of 2028. But in the working paper of the four-time Formula 1 world champion there is also an exit option that allows him to leave the red bulls if he has no World Cup-compatible car.
After Red Bull Racing was still the measure of all things in the first few years of Verstappen’s world champion era, the Austrian racing team has recently fallen back, this season it is currently only enough in the team ranking. Too little for the demands of the ambitious champion, which was most recently acted with Mercedes and Aston Martin and which has already been advised to become a sabbatical. So what’s next? The next races will apparently show.
“I always think about my future and have always done it,” said Verstappen when asked about his further career steps in an interview with “De Telegraaf”. That was “even in the good years”, the Dutch continued. “On the other hand, I’m also very quiet at the moment when it comes to my future.”
He now wants to “see the rest of the season, or at least part of it,”, “emphasized Verstappen, who still seems to have confidence in an increase in performance. “The team can take big, decent steps. The upcoming races are very important, even for my future,” he let up.
Verstappen describes the problem of hasty changes
He spoke “not even from next year”, the 27-year-old said, but mine “very general”. Everyone in the team knows what it is about.
“Do you know what the problem is?” Asked Verstappen to answer immediately: “If you really had the choice and only look at the performance, you could change the team almost every season. But of course that is not possible.” He also said that to his racing team.
His intention was to remain, he said. “Unless things develop really strange. But [ein Abgang] is not my intention at the moment, “he said.
It is open whether this changes if the “coming races” mentioned by Verstappen do not bring the desired yield or there are no positive changes in the car. Only one thing is clear: there will be no break!
“That is not true at all. There is no question. My intention is to stay in Formula 1 at least until 2028. Sure, I don’t like everything in this environment, but I like working with the people around me and I like the race myself. A fourth place like in Miami is not my thing. But it is still better than the last,” he said.
