Gerard Joling changes course after his embarrassing playback blunder at RTL Boulevard. He refuses to perform with his new song in today Inside until his throat infection is over.
It has received a lot of media attention: the new single that Gerard Joling has recorded with the late André Hazes. For the video clip, the singer arranged André’s brother and a large part of that video clip was shown on Friday evening in Inside in today, where Johan Derksen was remarkably positive. Why didn’t Geer sing there?
Fake
Gerard had a throat infection and no longer wants fake singing on TV after his playback blunder. A week ago he went wrong with RTL Boulevard because he forgot his text. At a time when he could be heard, he kept his mouth shut and his microphone was at knee height. That is of course a mortal sin as a serious singer.
Of course nobody blames Geer, but it certainly does something with your status if at some point you are known as a singer who only playback on TV. And that is why Geer will stop lip syncen for the time being.
Voice
Wilfred Genee asks Gerard on the man. “And next time you will sing him here anyway? You now had some problems with your voice, I understood?”
Gerard agrees: “I’m going to sing him here again and then I want to do it live with orchestra, because I went wrong with that playback a few times. I don’t be ashamed of that either.”
Dancers
Why does Geer do that playbacken? “Because it is often the case … if you stand with dancers and playbacks, then you think: it is this, it is. You have to be careful not to dance too much. Then you get out … That is the same now with the Songfestival,” he says, pointing at Claude who received criticism that he didn’t sang completely constantly during his dances.
He continues: “But I really have a throat infection now. The next time I like to sing it, but then I come live with the band.”
Children
What do the children of the late André, André Hazes Jr. and Roxeanne Hazes, actually think of that new album? “I have to deal with Universal, with the person entitled, and with Rachel, and I played with that. They were very enthusiastic and they thought it was wonderful.”
“I think the children think so too. It is a kind of tribute to their father, so it can’t be better. It is only respect for one of the best folk singers in the Netherlands.”
