Farewell to Xabi Alonso from Leverkusen is a decided thing. Before his last game, his wife reported again with emotional words.
One last time Xabi Alonso will be on the sidelines as a coach of Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. The Spaniard competes with his team near Mainz 05 (from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). The game is no longer very important for the Werkelf. Leverkusen will complete the season as second in the table behind FC Bayern.
Alonso has been responsible for the success of the Rhinelander for more than two and a half years. A time when not only him, but apparently also his wife and the region are dear to his heart. Nagore Aranburu said goodbye from Leverkusen on social media.
“Time to say goodbye …”, the 45-year-old wrote on Friday on Instagram for a common picture of herself and Alonso in the Bayarena. With a reference to the upcoming last game of the season, she added: “I was so happy here and am deeply grateful for the love and friendliness that was shown to me.”
Special thanks to her, the friends she found in the club and at school. “I will always keep you in a warm memory,” she wrote. “I very much hope that our paths will cross somewhere in the world again.” She garnished the post with a red heart emoji.
Aranburu and Alonso have been married since 2009. Together they have a son and two daughters.
Xabi Alonso took over Bayer Leverkusen in autumn 2022. Last year he led the team to the championship, the first in the club’s history. Leverkusen was also able to secure the DFB Cup under his direction. Alonso is the designated successor to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, who hires as a national coach in Brazil. Alonso’s obligation has not yet been officially announced.
