Accident before Barcelona derby: Police gives update to the driver

Acute panic was apparently triggered for the serious accident in front of the city duel between Espanyol and FC Barcelona on Thursday. This was reported by the city’s police on Friday.
A driver had grasped several people from a crowd shortly before the derby whistled not far from the Espanyol Stadium in Cornellà de Llobregat (you can read more about this here). According to the Catalan health authority, a total of 17 people were violated. Three of them still had to be treated in the hospital on Friday. A 41 -year -old man suffered a serious head injury and is in the intensive care unit. However, there is no danger to life.
As Commissioner Eduard Sallent from the Catalan police said Mossos d’Estquadra, the vehicle first came to a standstill and then surrounded by numerous fans. The driver had “felt pressured” and drove into the crowd when trying to leave the place. Videos on social networks show how numerous supporters of Espanyol push a white car before accelerating and several people sweeps away.
According to the police, it was not a deliberate act. Alcohol and drug tests were negative. The woman, about 45 years old and not a criminal record, was temporarily arrested for negligent bodily harm and ruthless driving.
Because of the initially unclear location, the city duel was interrupted a few minutes after the beginning. Chaotic scenes and fear of a possible attack shaped the events around the stadium. After the situation clarified, the game continued (you can read more about this here). FC Barcelona won 2-0 and secured the championship title under coach Hansi Flick. The celebrations after the final whistle took place as planned despite the incident.
