McLaren is always the great protagonist of the Friday of Imola. As in the first free practice session, Oscar Plastri and Lando Norris dominated the ranking of the times with the Australian world champion who improved the morning time and put himself in the head of only 25 thousandths compared to the teammate to dominate even in the afternoon. But while in the first session the detachment times were more contained (enclosed in less than two tenths the first 6), in the afternoon the rivals were detached in an important way. The third chrono is that Pierre Gasly with the Alpine, detached by almost three tenths. Quarto is George Russell with the Mercedes at 4 exact tenths, then there is the Red Bull of Max Verstappen at 442 thousandths and then the first of the two Ferraris, that of Charles Leclerc at 475 thousandths.

Race step

The Monegasque, which recovered from the influence that made him skip the media day of yesterday, brought the news of the Cavallino to the track, in particular a new rear wing and news on the rear to give the SF-25 load more. The simulation of the race step was not bad, but the problem remains of making a good qualification so as not to start too far because in Imola the overtaking are very complicated. In the afternoon Lewis Hamilton closed with the 11th time to over six tenths, also preceded by the two Williams by Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz.

Few hitches

Ferrari will also have to look at the Mercedes who, in addition to Russell, has the usual Andrea Kimi Antonelli still to be discovered. In the afternoon session, the Bolognese carried out a study job and closed detached in 18th position. For the Bolognese, some tire management problems in a fast qualifying simulation attempt, but positive sensations for the race step. Tomorrow he will surely try to recover. Mercedes is one of the single -seater that has brought greater news, in particular a new front wing, a modified suspension and a redesigned hood. The two sessions took place without particular hitches. Only two accidents to report. In the first session the exit of Bortoleto’s track in the final, with his Sauber ended up against the barriers in a light way (but red flag and finished session). Then in the afternoon the only car ended up in the gravel was the Racing Bulls of Isack Hadjar, then left. Tomorrow at 12.30 the free 3, then at 4 pm the qualifications for pole.
