Since she was eighteen she has been a familiar face on the field of the Amsterdam hockey club. “It feels very crazy to leave. I have been here so many times. I really learned here what top sport is. It was a very nice time, but I now feel that I am ready for something new,” she says.
Olympic gold
Verschoor won several national titles and European prices with Amsterdam. She grew into the figurehead of the team and the Dutch national team. Last year during the Olympic Games in Paris, Verschoor scored the last shoot-out, after which the Netherlands got gold. “That was very special. Although I did not know at that time that my last ball contact was for the Orange,” says Verschoor. Also during the Games in Tokyo in 2020, she won gold with the Dutch team. After the Games in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, she took a silver medal home. “It was also special, because that was my first.”
