Marcel Halstenberg plays his last professional game on Sunday. Then the former international goes into the amateur area.

For Marcel Halstenberg we go back to his youth club. As the “Neue Presse” reports, the current chief defense chief of second division Hannover 96 changes to district league team SV Germania Grasdorf. On Tuesday, the 33-year-old is said to have taken the person responsible for his home club that an agreement was reached.

Already after the 1-1 game in the last home game of the season against Greuther Fürth last Sunday, Halstenberg said: “When I am back in Germany after my vacation, I can imagine kicking there.” The professional completed 165 Bundesliga games and has so far been 134 times in the 2nd Bundesliga on the pitch.

With Grasdorf he strives to promotion to the district league. At the beginning of May he had already followed the home game against league leader TSV Kirchdorf. The reaction to the upcoming change was accordingly euphoric.

“Marcel Halstenberg’s initiative to return to SV Germania Grasdorf to his footballing roots after his successful career as a professional footballer is a special honor and makes us extremely proud,” said the board of the club.

His connection to the club stayed tight over the years. Even during his time at RB Leipzig, Halstenberg regularly sent the club greeting messages. On Sunday, the nine-time national player will initially go to the season finale of the 2nd Bundesliga against Hertha BSC (from 3:30 p.m. in the T-Online live ticker).
