After his guest performance in Rome, Mats Hummels returned to BVB in the room-at least for the club World Cup. But this will probably not happen.
The love story between Borussia Dortmund and Mats Hummels could have received a third chapter this summer. After his first two episodes in the “black and yellow” (2008 to 2016, 2019 to 2024), the BVB bosses said that Hummels for the club World Cup came back this summer. The tournament, in which FC Bayern also takes part, starts on June 14th and takes place in the USA.
As the “Sport Bild” now reports, it will not be the reunification of the world champion with its long -term club – at least not at the gaming level. There should be two reasons for this. On the one hand, the BVB defense with the triple chain Waldemar Anton, Niklas Süle and Ramy Bensebaini is now stable. On the other hand, you doubt Hummel’s game practice in the club. In Rome, the 36-year-old often only sitting on the replacement bench, a total of only 19 competitive game operations.
However, it could still be a return to Dortmund. According to the report, however, it is not about commitment as a player. Rather, Hummels could take on a job in the management team at BVB. It is said to choose his function, it is said. Hummels’ wish to stand as a coach on the sidelines should be bigger. Other functions in Dortmund are also possible. The position of the license player at BVB would currently be free.
As a professional in Dortmund, Hummels had not received a new contract last summer. With the BVB he had previously won the German championship (2011, 2012) and twice the DFB Cup (2012, 2021). In between, the defender had also played at Bayern, three championships (2017 to 2019) and another cup victory (2019). In 2014 Hummels won the World Cup title with the German national team in Brazil.
