The Boston star, one step away from the elimination with New York, could only meet again in 2026/27
The diagnosis that all the Celtics fans feared, after the collapse of Jayson Tatum on the Garden parquet three minutes after the end of the race-4, went punctually in the late American afternoon on Tuesday. The injury of the Boston star, in fact, proved to be absolutely devastating: breakage of the Achilles tendon of the right leg. A terrible diagnosis for the player and a real boulder not only on the ambitions of a team with morals under heels and one step away from elimination (1-3 in the series) but also on the future of the franchise.
When do you come back?
–
Tatum has already operated on but the recovery times, which obviously will be communicated only in some time, leave no room for realistic hopes to see him on the pitch in the next championship. An incredibly disappointing race-4 for Boston, who had started on the right foot and seemed ready, on the lines of Saturday’s match, to run away in the third quarter, before being resumed and overcome by Brunson and his companions, thus becomes a watershed between what seemed like a Repeat season to doubts about the future of a team that could have abdicated the hopes of title for the near future. The full recovery of the 27 -year -old from St. Louis is not under discussion but the dynamics of an injury that will take him to the pole for the entire 2025/26 season opens worrying scenarios for the Celtics who will find themselves one of the most expensive Salary Cap of the NBA in the next season and which therefore, also considering the recent transfer of ownership, will be able to review their objectives, perhaps aiming to reduce the costs of the roster. With Tatum in the infirmary, in fact, Boston, however, could not realistically aim for a contender season in the next championship, the future of players such as Porzingis, Holiday and the Free Agent Horford, in the Celtics shirt now becomes indecipherable. Premature speeches, at this moment the reigning champions must think of a series to be stretched to try to remain clinging to the posseon with the nails, in a naturally complicated psychological situation. Really a tremendous blow for Tatum in the first place and in general for the Celtics.
