The Champions League has changed and, according to UEFA, for the better. The new format, introduced with the aim of increasing show and unpredictability, has already given positive signals. And on the Var front, it announces new possible provisions by IFAB and FIFA, in particular on the millimeter offside.

satisfaction

“We are very satisfied with the new format,” said Marchetti, underlining how the goal was to increase the uncertainty and variety between the participating teams. “We have witnessed a very interesting group stage, practically without games without interest and then incredible clashes in the direct elimination phase, like Inter-Barcelona. The format is not temporary. It has been thought not with a limited idea, but precisely because it becomes that of the future. We are sure that it will give satisfaction and improve a formula that has had a worldwide success. We will reason with the clubs on some small details, but will remain such.”

Var and offside

On the regulatory front, UEFA looks carefully to the news at the IFAB and FIFA study: “The millimetric offside creates discomfort. A change is being evaluated that considers only significant parts of the body, to avoid goals canceled for a few centimeters”, explained Marchetti. “The VAR remains fundamental, but it must be used with balance so as not to distort the game”.

stadium theme

After the Hard words of Ceferin On the Italian stadiums, the deputy general secretary general UEFA also wanted to say its own: “We follow Italy with an extremely attentive eye. Italy is a great country of world football, seeing infrastructures so out of time is not an element of benefit. We hope that Italy finally manages to give a steering transforming them into modern and comfortable stages as today are not. A long time, I can’t think that Italy is unable to present five stadiums in line with requests “

Inter in the final

Finally, a note of pride for Italian football: “Seeing Inter in the final is a joy for everyone. Italy has placed three years ago three teams in the European finals, it is a football that makes results and we hope it can also be placed at the 2026 World Cup,” concluded Marchetti.
