The athletic performance counts at the Austrian ski association – Franziska Gritsch now feels that. She loses her place in the World Cup squad.
Franziska Gritsch will not be part of the Austrian national team in the coming season. The ski racer from Tyrol did not meet the requirements of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and was therefore not nominated for the World Cup squad. According to this, placements in the top 30 of a discipline are a prerequisite for squadrams – Gritsch missed this hurdle in both slalom and giant slalom.
The 28-year-old showed himself self-critically with the decision: “My performance was simply not sufficient. It is a shame-but I’m also to blame somewhere,” said Gritsch in an interview with the “Kronenzeitung”. Despite the disappointment, she doesn’t want to give up. She hopes to recommend herself for the national team through qualification runs: “I will continue to fight, accept the challenge.”
Gritsch’s career in the World Cup began in December 2017 with a mission in Lienz. Two years later, she celebrated her first podium in the parallel race of St. Moritz with third place. She also showed appealing services in the 2022/23 season. The third place in the Super-G from Kvitfjell (Norway) stood out-it was her first podium in a speed discipline.
In addition to Gritsch, the association also painted ski jumper Sara Marita Kramer from the national squad. Read more about this here.
