Cyclist Marianne Vos has won the second stage of the Vuelta Femenina. The 37-year-old rider from Den Bosch was the strongest in the Catalan town of Sant Boi de Llobregat after a hilly ride in the rain.
In the chaotic final kilometers, Vos was perfectly kept from the front by her teammates and was the first to reach the last corner, after which no one could get into her wheel anymore. In the previous two editions of the Vuelta, she always won two stages and the points classification.
Through good work by her young teammate Imogen Wolff, Vos sprinted for the chaos out of uncontrolled to her first victory of the season.
On Tuesday, Vos, who also won the intermediate sprint along the way, will start in the green point sweater in the third stage. Again a ride on rolling terrain with a relatively flat arrival.
Vos drives Visma-Lease a Bike for the team. On Friday the final ride in the Tour of Spain is planned for women.
