According to Tineke Krikke of the Friends of National Monument MH17 Foundation, it is only logical that the memorials go to the monument after the regular commemoration of the dead. “The fact that this also concerns victims of a war is outside of doubt for everyone. No matter how the disaster came about, they would have been there without war. Today is also theirs.”
Krikke: “That is why it is so important that we, as a village, also take care of it. We are working on all kinds of volunteers to maintain this memorial place for the victims and the relatives. It ended up in our village by chance, but now we look after it with all love.”
