With a 2: 2 (1-0) draw against Bayer Leverkusen, SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga has made FC Bayern a master. There was much more in it for the SCF.
Master on the couch: After the championship celebration on Saturday was postponed by the late Leipzig equalizer, Bayern now celebrated their title on Sunday. This became possible because Bayer Leverkusen simply presented himself harmless for far too long in the top game at SC Freiburg and after the tie it stays with an eight-point deficit on Munich. With just two remaining match days.
“Made too many mistakes”
“We have made too many mistakes in the past few weeks”said Bayer captain Granit Xhaka after the end of the Sportschau interview. But he promised: “We will give everything to the end and then go on a deserved vacation.”
For the SC, this meant the draw: the preliminary leap came back to fourth place – the Breisgauers have everything in their hands when it comes to moving into the Champions League. “That was our best season performance today, I am very grateful to the team”said SCF coach Julian Schuster of the Sportschau. However, he added: “Of course, the result doesn’t feel good at all.”
Team of Freiburg’s Schuster takes the escape to the front
The chance for the premier class – the sports club knew: that would only work with a lot of courage and offensive spirit against Bayer Leverkusen. So the Freiburg began as it usually does Leverkusen: dominant and with a lot of possession of the ball.
Bayer was pushed deep into his own half and, above all, Ritsu Doan on the right outer lane caused a lot of operation. The lively Japanese also prepared the first good opportunity for the SCF. In the 17th minute he duped two Leverkusen and gave his colleague Vincenzo Grifo space and time in front of the opposing goal. The Italian pulled off from 22 meters with his well -known strong foot – Matej Kovar parried in Bayer’s box.
Leverkusen surprised – Freiburg dominates
Leverkusen seemed surprised by the courage and had problems finding into the usual combination game. The still reigning German champion also had Florian Wirtz in his full creativity again – but the young star initially remained unobtrusive like his colleagues. And Freiburg continued to steam. After 33 minutes, Freiburg had the top chance for Osterhage, which had broken through on the right. Kovar in the Bayer box shortened the angle so strongly that it was shot from a pointed angle by the Freiburg.
Maximilian Eggestein was reserved to convert the Freiburg superiority into countable things: In the 44th minute, the ball bounced off his feet through detours. 22 meters in front of the gate he rightly lay down the ball – without opposing pressure – and shot it right into the left corner: 1: 0.
Bayer printing and defenseless
Freiburg deservedly deservedly against an opponent at the break who gave the impression of leaving the season easily. Not only at the goal, Sch Bayer presented much too partly to be able to get something against a state -motivated opponent.
The protégés took this passivity from the Xabi Alonso, which is increasingly desperately gesturing on the edge of the field, into the second half. And they were punished quickly. After the DOANS flank, Johan Manzambi was unable to put in the middle of the head, where Piero Hincapie under the distress of Adamu an own goal went 2-0 (48.).
Wirtz ‘with the connection goal, tah with the late equalization
Alonso reacted in the 55th minute with a triple change – which brought a little more swing. Countable things only jumped out in the last few minutes. At first, Wirtz reduced to 2: 1 with a long -range shot in the 82nd minute. In injury time it was Jonathan Tah, who even scored the 2-2 out of the crowd and at least provided for muffled cheers on Bayer Bank.
