VfL Bochum at least postponed the seventh relegation from the Bundesliga with a zero number on Friday evening (02.05.2025) at direct competitor 1. FC Heidenheim. At the FCH, there is great worries about keeper Kevin Müller, who injured himself in an air combat and lost consciousness. Later, however, he came back to him, as his teammates reported after the final whistle.
Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt analyzed after the 0-0 at the Sportschau microphone: “Today there was more for both teams, but in the end the draw was fair. The point helps us more than Bochum, we are still on the Driver Seat and can reach the relegation place itself.”
His colleague Dieter Hecking said like all of them before: “First of all, get well soon to Kevin Müller. We had the great chances through Myron Boadu, but we just don’t take the lead again. But it is not over yet, Bochum experienced that with Mainz last year.”
Many duels, little quality
The game was characterized by the kick -off from the kick -off. It was robust, the duels were led highly and completely dominated the action. After half an hour of play there were already 64 duels against men, of whom the guests had won 33.
All of this was extremely at the expense of the game quality. Heidenheim did not find the forward gear at all, after 30 minutes with an XGoal value of 0.06. At VfL that looked a little better, but the two half -cooked counter opportunities by Felix Passlack (pass to the emptiness) and Georgios Masouras (shot blocked) were nothing that one would remember during the half -time break.
Early for Hofmann and Scienza
In terms of personnel, however, both teams had to cope with setbacks in the first round. Bochum’s striker Philipp Hofmann had to go from the field in the 10th minute with suspicion of a back injury, 20 minutes later Leo Scienza also followed back problems on the side of the Heidenheimers.
The only good opportunity of VfL had substitute Myron Boadu substitute for Hofmann, who, however, did not hit the ball properly when trying to take a volley after a flank from Masouras and promoted over the crossbar. Shortly before the break, the team from the Ostalb came close to the goal, but Patrick Maina headed a free -kick flank just next to the left posts.
Great worries about keeper Müller
Five minutes after the break, there was a scene that relativized any commitment in the fight for relegation. In a high ball, Bochum’s Ibrahima Sissoko hit the Heidenheim goalkeeper legend Kevin Müller in the aerial combat, Müller banged on the floor with the back of the head and apparently lost consciousness.
The game was then interrupted for more than ten minutes, the keeper’s emergency care took place behind a tarpaulin as a privacy screen. Many fans in the stands had tears in their eyes, co-opponents were shocked, both fan camps showed their sympathy with Kevin-Müller chants. “The doctors, paramedics and fans have reacted well. That now works quite well”said Bochums Maximilian Wittek at the Sportschau microphone. “I hope that Kevin will get back on his feet quickly. I have known him for a long time. A super type.”
Boadu only hits the post
It was obvious that Heidenheim had to find himself again afterwards. In the 65th minute, Bochum almost made capital out of it, but after a counterattack on Boadu, the ball landed on the right post, the rebound Frank Feller secured the substitute for Müller in the greatest distinction.
From the 70th minute, however, the FCH took over again, but Benedikt Gimber moved his inclined shot and Jan Schöppner had the idea of crossing again with a header chance of one and a half meter before the Bochum goal, but none of his teammates expected.
Boadu fails pitifully, Beck narrowly
In the third minute of the 14-minute stoppage time, VfL then had the great opportunity to decide the game in his favor. Joker Gerrit Holtmann sent Boadu on the trip, but instead of a consistent degree, she tried an elegant lupfer – and failed miserably. The cross pass on the Moritz Broschinski, completely free in the center, would also have been an option, but this made Boadu from this scene, somehow aptly summarized the seasonal performance of the Bochum.
This would almost punish this on the opposite side, but his Schlenzer – the technical highloight of the entire evening – steered Timo Horn excellently on the outer post in the 100th minute. Bochum also came again through Jakov Medic, whose spacer shot also parried Feller.
