The purpose of a holiday is fairly simple for many people: relaxing and recovering. Yet the Drenthe Safety Region asks holidaymakers to be alert. And on natural fires. Because in an increasingly drier landscape there is danger lurking.

This year there were ten natural fires in Drenthe so far. As much as in the whole of last year.

“We see that it is becoming increasingly drier due to climate change,” says Theo de Jong, specialist Natural Brand Management at the Drenthe Safety Region. “And if it is very dry, you quickly have a natural fire.”

And people play a major role in this. Three -quarters of all natural fires are created by people. That is why the fire brigade told people again to be careful.
