Prussia Münster has been winning in the 2nd Bundesliga since mid -March. That now has consequences. Promotion coach Sascha Hildmann has to go.
Bang in the 2nd Bundesliga: Prussia Münster surprisingly released his long-time coach Sascha Hildmann. The club announced this from the 53-year-old on Sunday morning and therefore less than 24 hours after the team had won a 1-1 1: 1 in the home game against Darmstadt 98.
The club announcement said that the competition in the relegation battle had recently scored better than the Münster. “For the remaining three games, a special momentum has to be created, which recently did not want to set themselves with five playless games in a row,” said the club. Münster’s last victory dated March 15 (1-0 in Elversberg). After the draw against Darmstadt on Saturday evening, those responsible came to end the cooperation with Hildmann – “to release new forces for the decisive season phase”, as it was said.
In addition to Hildmann, assistant coach Louis Cordes and analyst Janis Cordes also have to go. Münster’s sports manager Ole Kittner said: “Sascha Hildmann and his team of coaches are part of one of the most successful chapters in our club history. With his emotional way, he inspired people and, after 33 years, rose to the 2nd Bundesliga again. He will always be very welcome in Münster and especially on Hammer Strasse.”
Hildmann took over Münster in the 3rd league in December 2019, but could not save the team from relegation to the regional league. In 2023, the rescheduling succeeded. The direct march into the 2nd Bundesliga followed sensationally. Since December 2024, Hildmann has also been the coach with the longest uninterrupted term of office from a trainer of Prussia Münster. The club wants to announce who will be Hildmann’s successor as soon as possible.
In the 2nd league, Münster slipped to 17th place after the draw against Darmstadt. Mit promoted Ulm had passed the relegation rank on Saturday after a 1-0 win with Greuther Fürth and is now on the relegation rank. Ulm and Münster both collected 29 points, but the “sparrows”, however, the four goals better goal difference. Münster will compete at the 1st FC Magdeburg in the coming week before the last home game against Hertha BSC is on the plan. On the last matchday we go to the relegation summit in Ulm.
