In the historical season, Robert Andrich is now struggling for his future in Leverkusen. His dissatisfaction could soon have followed.
In the past season, Robert Andrich was one of the formative characters of Bayer Leverkusen. In addition to his appointment to the German national team, the native of Potsdam celebrated the winning of the Doubles in the 2023/24 season. But the situation is currently more difficult.
In the current season, Andrich does not go beyond the role of the supplementary player. Despite a contract running until 2028, the defensive player under coach Xabi Alonso receives less time. For comparison: Out of 30 Bundesliga games, he previously missed eight duels, two of them by an injury and a yellow lock. Last season there were only six games.
According to information from the Pay TV station Sky, Andrich is dissatisfied with this development and is aiming for a larger role for the coming season.
Talks between the club and the player should take place before the beginning of the next season. Above all, Andrich wants to get clarity about the perspectives of Bayer Leverkusen. In particular, the question of future operational time should play a crucial role in the negotiations.
A farewell to the midfielder does not appear to be excluded – especially if success coach Alonso stays in Leverkusen beyond the summer. An departure from Andrich is then likely not to endanger his chances of participating in the 2026 World Cup as a regular.
The starting point would be different in the event of a change of coach: Alonso leaves the club, could result in new opportunities for Andrich to develop a regular place again in Leverkusen.
