Schreuder and Nagelsmann worked successfully together in Hoffenheim for a long time. Now the Dutch could also assist the national coach with the DFB.
The German national team could get a new assistant trainer promptly. According to information from the Pay TV station Sky, national coach Julian Nagelsmann made contact with Alfred Schreuder a few weeks ago. The Dutchman is currently still working at the Al-Nasr SC club in the United Arab Emirates.
Schreuder is said to be a serious candidate at the DFB to replace Sandro Wagner in the coaching team. Wagner will leave the selection after the Nations League final Four in summer (read more about this here).
Nagelsmann and Schreuder know each other well: During their time together at TSG Hoffenheim, they were on the sidelines in 77 competitive games. At that time, the collaboration was successful, which could now benefit the 52-year-old.
However, it is open whether there is actually an obligation. According to Sky, Schreuder also have other inquiries.
The DFB therefore probes the market intensively. The upcoming end of Wagner did not surprisingly come in the association, which is why Nagelsmann was said to have become active at an early stage.
Schreuder was previously head coach at FC Twente Enschede, FC Bruges, at 1899 Hoffenheim and Ajax Amsterdam. He also worked as an assistant at FC Barcelona under Ronald Koeman.
So far, Schreuder has collected various titles as a trainer. So he won the Dutch and the Belgian championship twice. To do this, he each won the Dutch Cup and the Super Cup twice and the Copa del Rey with Barça in 2021.
