The darts tour is currently stopping in Munich. The Englishman Scott Williams let himself be carried away into an obscene gesture before his second -round match. It wasn’t his first dropout.
There will probably be no friendship between Scott Williams and the German audience. The English Darts professional again caused a sensation at the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich.
Before the beginning of his second round game against the Northern Irish Josh Rock, the 35-year-old showed the audience the middle finger. The trigger is said to have been an insult from the auditorium. According to the agreed media reports, Williams was provoked with a “f *** you”.
After a brief interaction with the fans when he was rehearsing, it remained calm during the game. In terms of sport, Williams in the game against Rock left it – he lost 2: 6.
As TV broadcaster Sport1 reports, the incident was registered by the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA). The PDC Europe announced that such behavior was “punished and sanctioned” accordingly. However, what consequences the Englishman threaten is not in the area of influence of the PDC Europe. A fine is possible.
Williams and the German audience already have a history. At the 2023 World Cup in London, he had thrown Martin Schindler out of the tournament and then complained about the fans from Germany. At the time, he said: The game was “incredible for the neutral fan”, but the spectators never stood on his side.
Afterwards he expressed himself with a historical comparison that caused broad criticism when he said: “I know that we won two world wars and a world championship, but there were so many Germans here.”
Later Williams rowed back and spoke of a “stupid” statement in the zeal of the moment. He emphasized that he love “people, the food and the halls”.
