Michael van Gerwen has won a darts tournament on the European Tour for the first time this year. He beat on Monday evening in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich fellow countryman Gian van Veen with 8-7.

The former world champion from Vlijmen could use a success. Van Gerwen was eliminated last Thursday in the Premier League in Rotterdam in his first game against Stephen Bunting.

In Munich, he recovered cleverly by reaching the final and also throwing a nine -darter along the way.

It is already the fourth time for Van Gerwen that he wins the German Darts Grand Prix. It was his fiftieth final on the European Tour and this anniversary earned him the 38th title.
