The second division season at Karlsruher SC four game days before the end went more or less. The planning for the new season begins with a big change.

Small quake in Badenland: The Karlsruher SC has released Sebastian Freis. The division manager professional has to leave the club with immediate effect after only two years in office. “The disappointment that my task is coming to an end will continue to work in me for some time, but I will always carry the KSC in my heart,” Freis is quoted on the second division club’s website.

Mario Eggimann is now taking on his tasks, like Freis Ex-KSC player, who has been vice president of the club for around a year. However, the Swiss does not become a division of professionals, but managing director of sport. Since the separation from Oliver Kreuzer in early 2022, the position had remained vacant. In the meantime, Olaf Rebbe had also been acted as an external candidate. However, this ultimately decided to switch to Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel.

As a captain, Eggimann contributed decisively to the Bundesliga promotion in 2007, and also knows head coach Christian Eichner from this time. Now the 44-year-old is supposed to make the KSC successful again as a official. From now on he will take care of the squad planning for the coming season.

KSC President Holger Siegmund-Schultze said that Eggimann was the best solution to the vacant position. “In the course of the process that Mario Eggimann has implemented for us, we realized that he is the best solution,” said Siegmund Schultze.

Sebastian Freis, however, was no longer surprising. Since August 2023 as a division of professionals, the 40-year-old has repeatedly been criticized for his transfer decisions. The winter exit from striker Budu ZivziVadze to the 1st FC Heidenheim triggered resentment among fans.

After a strong first half of the season, it went downhill in the table after a strong first half of the season. In the meantime, the KSC is in ninth place – with only minor chances of promotion.
