GRomantic enra
Type: chipy and poignant melodrama
Director: Jia Zhangke. With Zhao Tao, Li Zhubin, Zhou You, Hu Mao Tao, Lan Zhou, Pan Jianlin
From New Year 2001 to the end of the pandemic (using for the first half of the story unused scenes of his previous films), Jia tells the link between a girl and what she thought was her boyfriend.
In a China that seems crushed by a modernity that is frightening (certain long sequences of silent close -ups are more eloquent than a thousand speeches), Bin abandoned Qiao Qiao to make luck: He promised to call it, but the years pass and has never been alive. So she decides to go and look for him close to the three gorges dam, where he knows he had sought work.
A scene from the film “Romantic generation”
The world that Jia shows us is the one where the old man is destroyed to make room for a new without a soul And where the words are not even needed to explain (the dialogues are reduced to a handful) but anonymous messages via cell phone are enough.
The portrait of a nation where there is only a place for silence and resignationwhile the speakers enhance a future that will force millions of Chinese to emigrate to other lands and where in the end the protagonists can only return to their steps, who defeated in the body and who in the soul.
For those who want to see China’s other side.
